Item tracking

Lot and serial-number tracking in IC exchange: transferring tracking data between companies and processing it at the receiver.

Purpose

BE-terna Intercompany extends the Business Central standard so that item tracking (lot and serial numbers) is transferred consistently across companies. This keeps traceability intact beyond the company boundary – from the outgoing document to the warehouse receipt at the partner.

Supported are purchase orders, sales orders, sales and purchase invoices, and sales and purchase shipments.

Business value

  • End-to-end traceability of lots and serial numbers across companies.
  • Automatic assignment of tracking data at the receiver when items and tracking codes match.
  • Deviations land in the error log and can be corrected there.
  • Foundation for compliance evidence in regulated industries.

Focus areas

Inspect tracking on IC documents

The line menu of each IC document exposes the transferred item tracking.

Control on the IC partner card

On the partner card you decide whether item tracking is allowed for purchase orders. When the option is off, processing rejects documents that carry tracking data.

Required setup

  • Items with an active item-tracking code and matching tracking setups.
  • Agreed formats for lot and serial numbers between the partners (or mapping rules).
  • Consistent unit-of-measure mappings (see Unit of measure mapping).

Outcome

  • Every transferred IC document carries its lots and serial numbers.
  • Warehouse receipts at the receiver contain the correct tracking information.
  • Deviations are documented and can be remediated in a targeted way.
