Setup

Create complete tools and connect them with a tool BOM and active version.

Purpose

A complete tool combines several tools or components into one productive unit. To be used in production orders, the complete tool requires a tool BOM and an active tool BOM version.

Prerequisites

Before creating a complete tool, prepare:

a tool BOM with components and versions,
a number series for complete tools in Manufacturing Setup if numbers should be assigned automatically.

Create a Complete Tool

Open Complete Tool Overview.
Select +New.
Depending on the number series setup, press Enter, or enter a complete tool number manually.
Fill the complete tool card.

Important Fields

Field	Meaning
Description	Short description of the complete tool.
Status	Possible statuses are Development, Sampling, Production, Maintenance/Service, and Blocked. An unsuitable status creates a warning in the production order.
Tool Group No.	Classifies the complete tool.
Service Life Unit Code	Unit in which service life is tracked.
Guaranteed Service Life	Manufacturer information about guaranteed service life.
Location Type and Location No.	Describe whether the complete tool is internal, at a customer, or at a vendor.
Tool BOM No.	Number of the tool BOM. It is required so components can be resolved when the production order is calculated.
Active Tool BOM Version Code	Current tool BOM version. Only after an active version is entered does Business Central show the Active Tool BOM Components FactBox.
Tool BOM Components Present	Shows whether the active tool BOM version contains components.
Repair Orders for Components	Shows whether open repair orders exist for installed tools.
Number of Status Warnings	Shows the number of installed tools with critical status, for example Development or Maintenance/Service.

Result

After setup, the complete tool can be used in an operation and later in production orders. The active tool BOM version determines which components are transferred into the production order structure.
