AI Foundation

Purpose

BE-terna AI Foundation provides shared AI services for BE-terna apps in Business Central. The apps use it to call models in Azure AI Foundry without maintaining their own connections.

Business value

• The AI provider is set up once, centrally; the API key is stored securely.
• A global switch and one switch per module on the AI Foundation Setup page control which AI features are active.
• Errors are classified consistently, for example as configuration, authentication, or timeout errors.
• Telemetry shows usage and errors per provider and module.

Functional focus

Modules

• Raw Prompt sends a system prompt and a user message that the calling app defines.
• Entity Text generates business text from facts, for example from item data, with a selectable tone, format, and emphasis.
• Vision generates text from up to ten images, optionally combined with facts.

Setup

Administrators with the AIF Admin permission set turn on the global switch and the required modules on the AI Foundation Setup page. Under Provider Setups, they add an Azure AI Foundry provider as the default and store the API key with Set Secret. Users who run AI features get the AIF User permission set.
