Purpose

The BE-terna Manufacturing Tool Management role center provides entry points for tool master data, complete tools, tool BOMs, setup tables, fault codes, and tool journals.

Activate the Role

Open My Settings.
In Role, select BE-terna Manufacturing Tool Management.
Confirm with OK.

Open Master Data

Open the role center.
Select Master Data.
Select the master data you want to maintain.

Setup

Purpose

Tool management setup includes central switches and number series in Manufacturing Setup, hierarchical Tool Groups, and codes for faults, fault reasons, and resolutions in repair orders.

Maintain Manufacturing Setup

Open Manufacturing Setup. In the BE-terna Manufacturing Tool Management role center, open it through Tool Management > Setup.

Maintain these fields in the BE-Manufacturing Tool Management area:

Field	Meaning
Error on Tool Status	Requires tools or complete tools to have status Sampling or Production before transactions can be performed. For complete tools, components are checked as well.
Tool Entries for Items	Defines whether item components in complete tools receive tool ledger entries during posting.
Transfer Tool Dimension to Item Journal	Transfers tool dimensions into item journal lines during output reporting when tools are used in the operation.
Copy Tool Description to Entries	Copies the description from the tool or complete tool card into tool ledger entries.
Tool Nos.	Number series for tools.
Complete Tool Nos.	Number series for complete tools.
Tool BOM Nos.	Number series for tool BOMs.
Repair Order Nos.	Number series for open repair orders.
Finished Repair Nos.	Number series for finished repair orders.

If open and finished repair orders should keep the same number, use identical number series for Repair Order Nos. and Finished Repair Nos..

Tools

Purpose

Tools are independent units in tool management. A tool can be maintained as a self-contained tool, an insert, or a base mold. Tool groups, service life, location, cavities, and tool-to-item assignments prepare tools for routing operations and production orders.

Recommended Setup Data

Before creating tools, prepare these data areas:

Data	Meaning
Tool Groups	Classify tools and support searching and filtering.
Dimensions	Can be assigned as default dimensions on tools.
Manufacturing Setup	Contains the number series for tools if tool numbers should be assigned automatically.

Create a Tool

Open Tool Overview.
Select +New.
Depending on the number series setup, press Enter to receive a tool number automatically or enter one manually.
Fill the tool card.

Tools in Production Orders

Purpose

Tools and complete tools are assigned to operations in the routing. When a production order is calculated or refreshed, these assignments are checked against tool-to-item assignments and transferred into the production order.

Prerequisites

The routing contains at least one operation.
The required tools or complete tools are set up.
For shared routings, matching tool-to-item assignments are maintained.

Assign Tools to an Operation

Open the Routing.
Set the focus on the required Operation.
Select Operation > Tools.
Fill the fields.

Field	Meaning
Tool Type	Tool, Complete Tool, or blank. A blank tool type can be used for a descriptive line without a tool reference.
No.	Number of the tool or complete tool. If tool type is blank, any code can be entered.
Description	Copied from the tool and can be adjusted.
Tool Family	Shows the tool family of an entered tool. For complete tools and descriptive lines, the field remains blank.

Posting Tools

Purpose

Tool ledger entries can be created indirectly by output reporting and repair orders, or directly through Tool Journals. As long as journal lines are not posted, they can be changed. After posting, protected tool ledger entries are created.

Journal Templates and Batches

Tool management uses several journal templates, for example Tool Journal and Recurring Tool Journal. For each template, several journal batches can be created, for example for Commissioning or Resetting.

Repairing Tools

Purpose

Repair orders support structured repair of tools. Faults, fault reasons, and resolutions can be documented. When a repair is finished, the tool can receive a new service life, new number of cavities, and a new status.

Production can see during planning that tools are unavailable because of repairs, or manually check tool status. Finished repair orders remain available as proof and as a knowledge base.

Recommended Setup Data

Fault Codes, Fault Reason Codes, and Resolution Codes if repairs should be classified.
Number series for Repair Order Nos. and Finished Repair Nos. in Manufacturing Setup.

If the number should be retained when finishing, use identical number series for open and finished repairs.

History

Purpose

Tool ledger entries contain transaction details for every tool or complete tool. They represent the history, for example commissioning, usage in production, repair, resetting, or service life estimate.

Tool ledger entries are read-only and cannot be changed after creation.

Which Activities Create Tool Ledger Entries?

Usage during output reporting or direct posting.
Service Life Estimate through tool journals.
Commissioning through tool journals.
Resetting through tool journals or service repairs.
Repair when repair orders are finished.

Tool ledger entries can be created directly through a tool journal or indirectly through output reporting and repair orders. Output reporting and repair orders also use the posting function of the tool journal internally.

Administration

Purpose

Administration of tool management covers ongoing maintenance and control of status, service life, cavities, repair processes, postings, and dimensions. It is separate from general Manufacturing administration because it directly controls tool lifecycles.
